2009 Reapportionment Analysis Released by EDS

New Census Bureau population estimates released today show new changes are likely for three more states in their congressional representation, with major emphasis on loses in the Midwest and gains in the South and Far West, compared to last year’s population release. However, trends contained in the new data point towards more twists in population growth over the remaining nine months between the date of the data and Census day on April 1, 2010. The trends lead to a variety of potential scenarios by the time apportionment happens in 2010.

2008 National Voting Equipment Report

For the first time in the nation’s history, fewer jurisdictions and less registered voters will be using electronic voting equipment than in the previous election.  After nearly three decades of
consistent growth in their use with each election, nearly 10 million fewer registered voters will
be using electronic voting equipment in the 2008 general election compared to just two years
ago.  Every county that has changed voting systems since 2006 has moved to optical scan
equipment.

New District Boundary Files Available for Texas and Georgia

Congressional and Legislative District Boundary Updates for the November 2006 General Election

New congressional district boundary files are now available for the states of Texas and Georgia. The files contain boundaries for congressional districts that were redrawn after the 2004 elections and were first used at the November 2006 general election. New legislative district boundary files are also available for the state of Georgia.

2006 Reapportionment Study

Louisiana Would Lose One Congressional Seat in Study of 2006 Census Population Estimates

New Census Population Estimates document for the first time the significant loss of population in Louisiana due to the Hurricane Katrina catastrophe. The loss of population will also lead to a loss of representation in Congress, according to a study by Election Data Services Inc. that was released today. Louisiana is now projected to lose a congressional seat, based on the new data.

2006 Voting Equipment Study

One-third of nation's voters will face new voting equipment this November

Nearly one-third of the nation’s registered voters will face new voting equipment this November, compared to the November 2004 election two years ago. Since the turbulent presidential election of 2000 and the enactment of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), jurisdictions with 63% of the nation’s registered voters have changed their voting systems, marking the largest shift in voting equipment in the nation’s history.
